Welcome to the Texel webpage of Greenmapper Friends. We are glad that you want to participate in this joint scientific experiment of the University of Groningen, National Park Duinen van Texel, Staatsbosbeheer, VVV Texel, and IVN Nature Education.
For everyone who completes the experiment, the Greenmapper team donates €15 to nature projects on Texel to support nature conservation projects.
Length of experiment
The experiment will take approximately 20 minutes.
What does Greenmapper entail?
- Mark your favorite nature areas on a local, regional, national, and global level, and explain why these are your favorite areas.
The scientists behind Greenmapper analyze the data and ensure that the knowledge reaches politicians and companies. This way, your voice becomes important in decisions about nature and landscape. - Easily support your favorite nature area online with knowledge or a financial contribution.
Once you mark an area on the map, Greenmapper checks if it overlaps with an area managed by an organization, such as the National Park Duinen van Texel. Is there overlap? Then you automatically become an official friend of that area. Everyone connected to one area forms an online community. Within that community, you can participate in open discussions, debates with propositions, or (virtual) funding requests.
What do we ask of you?
As part of the Greenmapper experiment, we ask you to mark four natural areas that you love, on a map (a garden or park in the city, a piece of farmland with cows or tulips, your favorite forest or island, etc.). A place with nature that you find attractive, valuable, or important. We ask for four locations on a local, regional, national, and global level. You can see how it works in the video below.
Since you are on the Texel page, Texel is likely one of your favorite natural areas. We would also like to know roughly where you live so that we can determine to which spatial level Texel relates to for you. So, your exact address is not needed, but the street or neighborhood where you live.
Here you can see how to indicate where you live on the map.
Use the step-guide below to participate in this scientific experiment
When you complete the experiment, the Greenmapper team will donate €15 to nature projects on Texel.
Step 1: Map your favorite nature area
What are your favorite nature-related areas? Map them via GreenMapper Friends and explain why you like them and what you enjoy doing there. Click on “Participate” at the bottom of the page to start. In the top right corner of the screen, you can switch the language from English to Dutch, or vice versa. Completed? You earn €5 for nature on Texel.
Step 2: Allocate your nature budget
In the next step, you allocate a personal budget for nature. What is a realistic annual budget for you to fund nature? How would you divide this across your favorite areas and various funding goals? Finished? You have now earned €10 for nature on Texel.
Step 3: Projects on Texel
In the third and final part of the experiment, we ask you to respond to specific funding requests on Texel. After step 2, you will be led to this section.
You can make a pledge for each request and provide your explanation, or refrain from pledging and provide your explanation. Your elaboration is very valuable to us.
Once you have responded to all six funding requests (this will be indicated by checkmarks), you have completed the experiment and we will donate an additional €5.00, for a total of €15, to nature projects on Texel, with a maximum of €2,000.
Disclaimer!
Greenmapper might initially seem similar to other apps aimed at the general public, but it is scientific software and we are experimenting. If you come across things that (still) do not work intuitively, please let us know! We hope this does not deter you from participating and becoming a Greenmapper Friend!
