Circular economy is about using resources in ways that reduce waste and create new value again and again. It applies both to everyday life and to how we move around as travelers, guests, or locals. Every choice in transport, consumption, or accommodation is an opportunity to support a greener development on Bornholm.

What is Greenmapper?
Greenmapper is a research platform run by the University of Groningen, where people share their favorite nature and landscape spots and discuss how we can better protect them. In this way, participants help advance science, policy, and nature conservation.

In the case of Bornholm, we invite people as “citizen scientists” to explore how to effectively achieve Zero Waste 2032 through an interactive polling experiment to hear opinions and find consensus and divergence.

Two circular initiatives
- The Material Bank, aiming to give construction and demolition (C&D) waste, such as bricks, wood, tiles, etc., a new life through creative and practical reuse
- The REUSE-LAB, aiming to create youth jobs by repairing electrical and electronic goods, such as headphones, TVs, washing machines, etc., for reuse.
These two were used as cases.

Still, it remains scientific software, with very limited funding and a very small technical support team. When compared to a simple written survey, Greenmapper stands out as a visually appealing and interactive tool. Create an account Click on “participate” at the bottom of this page and become a “fan” of the Bornholm-GreenMapper community! To start participating, you first mark on a map where you live. For privacy, you don’t mark your exact address, but approximately where you live. You can watch the short animation video to explain how this works.

Participate in an interactive polling
After registering, you will be redirected to an interactive polling page. We explore how to actively engage in the circular economy, with two initiative cases as mentioned: The Material bank and the REUSE-LAB.

We select one winner from those who voted and send in statements. The notifications of results would be sent out via email.
